The Questions Nobody Has Answered

If Virginia or Texas imposes similar restrictions within the next 12 months, the US hyperscaler build-out faces a structural ceiling that cannot be engineered around. The combined pipeline of those three states represents the majority of planned data center capacity in the country.

Second: How fast can the nuclear option scale? The core argument for small modular reactors and on-site nuclear power has always been grid independence. Microsoft, Google, and Amazon all have active nuclear partnership agreements. This moratorium just made those programs a regulatory arbitrage imperative, not just an energy-cost optimization. But SMRs are years from commercial deployment at hyperscale — the timeline does not match the immediate capacity crunch.
